Anonymous Response to Vic Toews (bill C-30)
Our dear government of the Great White North has introduced legislation to allow, among other things, warrantless spying on people’s online activity. In response, someone named @vikileaks30 began putting information from our Minister of Public Safety’s divorce proceedings online, 140 characters at a time. The Ottawa Citizen tried to catch the prankster in a honey trap, getting him/her to click on a link to a webpage from which they captured his/her IP address—and found it belonged to the House of Commons. That, of course, caused a total shitstorm as people began pointing fingers across the aisle with the governing Conservatives requesting a Parliamentary investigation, ignoring the possibility that it could have been as simple as someone spoofing the IP address. And then this happened.
It is so on.
